The MAB reports to the IEEE Control Systems Society President, and the Executive Committee (ExeCom). Members of MAB interface with individual members of the Control Systems Society, with the non-IEEE societies (e.g. SIAM), and with each other. All MAB members serve one year appointments (January - December) based on nomination by the incoming CSS President, with approval by the Board of Governors. Except for the Vice President of Member Activities Board, there is no limitation on the length of service for MAB members. Traditionally, 2 - 3 years is considered to be a reasonable length of service.

Typically, the President - Elect relies on the Vice President of MAB to suggest nominations for the following year's MAB appointees in September of the year preceding his/her term. He/She then submits the names of proposed appointees (perhaps modifying the slate with additional volunteers) to the Executive Committee for approval, and if this is granted, the new terms take effect in January of the following year. Of course, it is desirable for new appointees to contact present appointees to receive appropriate files and documents prior to the change of officers in January.
