New paper upload policy for CSS conferences |

One new policy approved at the June BoG meeting will be of interest to many members. The CSS-sponsored conferences, CDC and MSC, currently require full registration to be paid before the final versions of accepted papers can be uploaded and ultimately published in the conference proceedings. We do not, however, impose any limits on how many papers can be uploaded by a single registered author. This generous policy is increasingly becoming an anachronism, as most other control conferences (and IEEE conferences in other fields) have restricted uploads per registration—in several cases to one or two accepted papers. After considerable debate we have arrived at what we think is an appropriate compromise between our past practice and new imperatives. Starting from CDC 2010, authors with full registration will be able to upload up to three papers. In addition, reduced-rate registrants (e.g., students) will be entitled to upload one paper—currently only full registrations allow upload, so this is a significant liberalization. Additional uploads in either case will incur an additional charge.
