o To provide opportunities for the CSS membership to communicate with colleagues in his/her subspecialty,
o To provide opportunities for the CSS membership to be aware of current events in his/her subspecialty,
o To provide opportunities for the CSS membership to participate technically in advances in the field, and
o To publicizing technical accomplishments of the control engineering profession and the technical accomplishments of members.
The IEEE Control Systems Society Technical Activity Board (TAB) is chaired by the Vice President of Technical Activities and consists of the Chairs of the Technical Committees, members of external committees, a sub-committee, the Liaison Representatives, and certain Standing Committee. The Vice President of Publications and the Vice President of Conferences are ex officio members of TAB. TAB, through the Vice President of Technical Activities, reports to the Control System Society President, and the Executive Committee. Members of TAB interface with individual members of the CSS, with the advisory boards of interdisciplinary journals, with other non-IEEE societies (e.g., , IFAC), and with IEEE-TAB committees.
TAB members serve one-year (January-December) terms, based on the nomination by the incoming CSS President, with approval by the Executive Committee, and a vote by the Board of Governors. Except for the Vice President of Technical Activities, there is no formal limitation on the length of service for TAB members. Normally, however, persons are allowed to serve no more than 4 years.
TAB meetings are held at the American Control Conference (ACC) and at the Conference on Decision and Control (CDC). TAB Members should plan to attend at least one of the two TAB meetings annually, and to maintain regular telephone or e-mail contact with each other or through the VP-Technical Activities during the year. It is desirable to hold Technical Committee meetings at the ACC, CDC, MSC, or other conferences.
