Control of Connected and Autonomous Vehicles in Mixed Traffic

This invited session brings together innovative contributions on modeling and control of connected and autonomous vehicles in mixed traffic systems. The increasing level of vehicle automation poses interesting and challenging questions for researchers from both methodological and theoretical perspectives. Indeed, several open issues need to be addressed before the massive introduction of connected and autonomous vehicles (CAVs) into the automotive market. These issues range from defining control systems that focus on the dynamics of the single CAV to the modeling and control of scenarios in which there will be the simultaneous presence of CAVs and conventional vehicles. To that end, this invited session will address these issues, with six scientific contributions devoted to the control of autonomous and connected vehicles in mixed traffic systems.
