Video Contest

The contest is now closed.

We are delighted to launch the IEEE CSS Video Clip Contest 2022 as part of the first IEEE CSS Day. This contest is a unique opportunity to promote the control field at large to a broad audience including non-control experts. Everybody within and outside the control community is invited to participate, including undergraduate and graduate students of all majors, as well as industry and academic researchers and engineers from all over the world.

The IEEE CSS will award the video clips that best put control forward in a compelling and broadly accessible manner either by focusing on a particular topic or on the field in general. Participants should thus prepare a video clip on a subject related to control theory or control applications. Videos must be of good quality (at least 720p) and be no longer than five minutes in duration. The applicants must have the right to use the video and must incorporate non-copyrighted material only. All relevant dialogues should be in English or subtitled in English.

The submission deadline is September 18, 2022. The video clips must be submitted on the dedicated platform, which will be made available soon, see Participate for further instructions.

The finalists will be selected by a jury of renowned IEEE CSS members, and the final word will be given to the IEEE CSS Day participants who will be invited to vote online for the winning video clip. The authors of the winning video will receive $1000, and 2nd and 3rd places will be granted $500, and $250, respectively.

Prize:
All videos are judged by a jury consisting of renowned IEEE CSS researchers. The videos are treated equally and are judged on quality, creativity, and potential to promote the field.

The Jury members will select the finalists. Then, the best three videos will be determined by the votes of the IEEE CSS Day 2022 participants during IEEE CSS Day 2022. The best three videos will receive prizes for contributing to the contest: The 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places will be awarded $1000, $500, and $250, respectively. The finalists will be notified early October 2022.

Guidelines for contest participation

Eligibility. Participants must be at least 18 years old. Everybody from within and from outside the controls community is invited to participate. High school students undergraduate and graduate students of all majors, as well as industry and academic researchers and engineers from all over the world are eligible to participate.
Video. Prepare a video clip on a subject related to control theory or automatic control. The video can focus on a particular topic or on the field in general, and are expected to have the potential to promote the field. Videos must have good enough quality (720p or more) and last no longer than five minutes length. Participants must have the right to use the video and must incorporate non-copyrighted material only. All relevant dialogues should be in English or subtitled in English.
Legal. The participants must make sure that they have the right to use the video and that non-copyrighted material only is incorporated. For details, see the IEEE CSS Video Clip Contest legal information.
Submit. Register the video on the IEEE CSS Video Clip Contest submission website by September 18, 2022.
Jury. The video clip will be judged by a renowned IEEE CSS jury, which will determine the finalists. The final word will be given to the IEEE CSS Day participants who will be invited to vote on-line for the winning video clip. Prizes. The best videos will be awarded $1000 for 1st place, $500 for 2nd place, and $250 for 3rd place. For details, see the IEEE CSS Video Clip Contest prizes.
After completion of the IEEE CSS Video Clip Contest, the winners and the finalists will be presented on the IEEE CSS website.
